Did you know that you can help protect your child’s oral development by starting their dental checkups as early as possible? The American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry both recommend that your child’s first dental visit should be within six months after your little one’s first tooth erupts.

At Cen-Tex Dental, however, our dentist actually sees our newest patients as early as six months of age. We believe it is never too early to learn how to properly care for your child’s developing smile. As dental practitioners, one of the things that have deeply concerned is the increasing rate of cavities in preschool-aged children. Children are developing cavities as early as age two!

To prevent this from happening to your child, we seek to help you learn how best to support your child’s oral health. This means caring for your child’s dietary needs and implementing good oral hygiene to prevent dental problems from developing. While we provide a fun-filled environment for your child’s visits, we also cover the following essentials at your child’s first dental visit:

— We share how best to care for your little one’s oral health.

— We help you understand how to deal with your child’s oral habits, such as finger sucking.

— We help you correlate your child’s diet with their oral health needs.

— We help you find ways to avoid oral accidents from occurring.

— We advise you when fluoride should be used for your child’s developing chompers.

— We share with you your child’s expected oral development so that you know what to look for.

Your child’s first dental visit will help you create a supportive environment for their oral health. We will discuss any concerns you may have and recommend follow-up visits as your child grows. While six-month dental checkups are ideal for strong oral health, your child’s needs may determine the frequency of dental visits.
